The Mosselen is located in the heart of Budapest, in Újlipótváros, just around the corner from the Vígszínház, on the corner of Pannónia Street and Katona József Street, in the basement of a six-storey apartment building. The corner has always been a restaurant during its 70-year history. The Flemish word ‘Mosselen’, which means ‘shell’, is also a sign that our restaurant is a Belgian-inspired institution. Belgium is famous in the world of gastronomy for its incredible variety of beers and for the mussels, a speciality of Belgian cuisine. The “Beer Café” concept is a franchise idea of the Belgian brewery Interbrew, which aims to promote the Belgian beer culture around the world.
Mosselen strives to live up to this mission: we have 8 draught beers and 40 bottled beers on our drinks menu, all served in their own glass with their own beer mat, in keeping with the Belgian beer tradition. We are probably the only place east of Limburg where all seven Belgian Trappist beers are available, including the truly rare Westvleteren. When compiling the beer selection, we try to present the full Belgian spectrum: all the categories we know (strong ale, lambic, trappist, witte , etc ) are represented. Beer tastings are one of the special attractions of our house. During the tasting, we will introduce our guests to the raw materials and the main processes of beer production, the different types of beer, their history and traditions, and briefly introduce the main Belgian breweries. The theoretical part will be accompanied by a tasting of the different types of beer, during which the “beer sommelier” will draw the guests’ attention to the characteristics of each type. The tasting will be accompanied by small bites of beer or, if you wish, by a meal to accompany the beer. After the tasting, guests can create a gift pack of any size from the bottled beers for their beer-loving friends.
Mosselen’s cuisine is French/Belgian inspired. Our menu offers a full range of choices: if you’re just having a beer with friends, you can choose from a selection of snacks to match the beers. For those who want a real treat, there’s a choice of hot and cold starters, soups, salads, poultry, beef, lamb and pork dishes, fish dishes, shellfish and delicious desserts. We have a special section of our menu for vegetarians.
Our restaurant seats up to 120 guests in two rooms. The separate room has a capacity of 25-30 people, which allows for completely separated hospitality for smaller groups. This room can be equipped with a video projector and flipchart, making it a perfect place for informal company meetings. The entire restaurant is air-conditioned and we can seat our smoking and non-smoking guests in separate areas.

In addition to a la carte restaurant services, we also cater for complete events and various catering orders. Our current standard capacity is 200 people, but we can expand this according to demand. Our largest catering order to date was for 300 people.
